## Definitive method for creating low poverty lines

The poverty line, as one would expect, changes from one geographic area to another. A person may be rich in his or her own country and poor in another. Therefore, the agencies that calculate it must take this type of data into account.

The poverty line is calculated taking into account the purchasing power necessary to satisfy basic needs in a given area. Thus, if in order to satisfy basic needs in country A, we need at least 5 dollars a day, that will be the poverty line.

In other words, the poverty line is the minimum monetary amount needed to satisfy the basic needs of an adult. These basic needs include food, access to housing, education, health care, availability of drinking water and electricity.

Currently, the most reliable agency in this regard (World Bank) sets the poverty line at \$3.20 PPP/day for lower-middle-income countries and \$5.5 PPP/day for upper-middle-income countries.

## Lines for children – geometry for children

If we look at the arrows on the blue points (straight line), we can see that one point keeps exactly the same direction as the previous one, without changing. The arrows do not change direction.

Notice that we said before that Euclid’s geometry was a plane geometry. If the points A and B from before were on the surface of a sphere -for example, a ball- you could not draw a straight line between them without going through it, you would run out of ball!

Horizontal lines are those that have the direction of the horizon line. They run from right to left and vice versa, as well as being perpendicular (at a 90-degree angle) to the vertical line.

All straight lines divide the plane into two parts. To understand, if you draw a straight line on a sheet of paper – and you do not draw it exactly along one of the edges – you will have the sheet divided in two. If it is a horizontal line, the top and the bottom, if it is a vertical line, the left and the right.

It is defined as the insufficiency of monetary resources to acquire a minimum socially acceptable consumption basket. For this purpose, a welfare indicator (per capita expenditure) and socially accepted parameters (total poverty lines for total consumption and extreme poverty line for food) are chosen:

This method focuses its attention on the economic dimension of poverty and uses income or consumption expenditure as measures of well-being. In determining poverty levels, the per capita value of household income or expenditure is compared with the value of a minimum basket called the poverty line.

The line indicator is a method for determining conjunctural poverty based on the purchasing power of households in a given period. When the consumption-based poverty line method is used, it incorporates the value of all goods and services consumed by the household, regardless of how they are acquired or obtained.

The use of consumption expenditure has the advantage that it is the best indicator for measuring well-being, because it refers to what a household actually consumes and not to what it can potentially consume when measured by income. Another favorable aspect is that consumption is a more stable variable than income, which allows for a better measurement of the poverty level trend.

Its name comes from another similar command in the ed tool, i.e., g / re / p which stands for gsearch locally for a gular reexpression and print matching lines. grep basically searches for a given pattern or regular expression from an entry or standard file and prints the lines that match the given criteria. It is often used to filter out unnecessary details while printing only the required information from large log files.

The following output shows a normal grep output, as well as output with flag -A, -B and -C one by one. Note how grep interprets the flags and their values and the changes in the respective output. With -A1 flag, grep prints 1 line that follows right after the corresponding line.

In the following example, file.txt contains a line with a single word «support» and, as such, grep matches with -x flag regardless of lines that may contain the words «support» along with other text.

Note how using ^ character changes the output. ^ indicates the start of the string and grep matches ^It as any line beginning with the word It. Enclosing in quotes can help when the pattern contains spaces, etc.
